Escape the laboratory with your circuit boards intact in this fast-paced 2.5D platformer, featuring a unique mode-based action system. 

Lil' Robo is in desperate need of a reboot and can only use one mode and action at a time. His programming has adapted to create unique special abilities when switching between each mode! 
Utilize your unique skillset to reach the end of each chamber and level as fast as you can. Each playthrough will be slightly different, with new challenges and modifiers.

Full tutorial provided in-game, as well as an advanced techniques slideshow in the pause menu. The game will last 6 levels with randomized level modifiers. Reach the blue checkpoint ending to proceed. After 6 levels, there just might be a boss...

A full list of mode transition effects:

  • Attack into Move - Short forward bunny hop.
  • Move into Attack - Shockwave based on velocity.
  • Jumping into Attack - Ground slam (+fast fall).
  • Dash into Jump - Free half-charge on jump out of the dash!
  • Jump into Move - Immediate free air-dash.
  • Move or Attack while touching a wall (off ground) - Wall grab.
  • Wall Grab + Jump - special jump (uses vertical inputs)
  • Wall Grab + Attack - attack down, up, and sideways!

Chaining special effects together, like dashes, increases your speed limit, allowing for a hyperdash style effect.

Credits can be viewed in game on the main menu. Best played on desktop (not browser)- no Mac build available.

Created for the BigMode Mode Jam by Constellation Creative.

We decided to add a second jam theme modifier: Experimentation. Each member of the team learned a new skill or set of skills for this jam, and had to experiment with them. Myself (lead programmer and designer) focused exclusively on the physics-based, multi-state character controller implementation (and UX). Our level designer used new techniques and tools to develop the levels, our artist learned Blender (and animated it all from 0 knowledge!), and our sound guy learned FMOD. Really proud of all the new skills we picked up! Hopefully you enjoy.

There are of course some bugs and funky interactions. The main one is that the Colorblind filters only worked in editor, and we couldn't troubleshoot that in time.

Enjoy! Sorry, colorblind folks. I promise the colors aren't so important!


EDIT: We discovered some game-breaking bugs in the build. Have fun in the first level, but unfortunately you can't play any of the other 6 because of some missing tags from a merge. Oops! We had fun either way. I'll upload the fixed version after the jam period.
